VoiceNation Answering Service (2026): Now Moneypenny, Pricing and Reviews

VoiceNation no longer sells under its own name. Here is what happened, what it costs today as Moneypenny, what customers say, and the alternatives worth a look.

The short answer

VoiceNation doesn't sell under its own name anymore. Moneypenny, a UK-owned answering service, bought it in 2020 and renamed it Moneypenny in 2025, and voicenation.com now forwards you to Moneypenny's US website without a word of explanation.

So if you're pricing VoiceNation today, you're really pricing Moneypenny. Its US plans for human answering start at $165 a month for 50 minutes. Reviews are split: strong on Trustpilot, a D- at the Better Business Bureau.

We're Zinng, an AI answering service, so we're not neutral. Below you'll find the real pricing, what customers say, how it compares with Davinci and Abby Connect, and the live services we'd look at instead. Every number comes from the companies' own pricing pages and public reviews, and the date we checked is on each card.

What happened to VoiceNation?

VoiceNation was a bilingual live answering service founded in 2002 in the Atlanta area. It went through two big changes:

  • March 2020, acquired: Moneypenny, a UK answering and live chat company, bought VoiceNation (along with Ninja Number, a business phone app from the same founders). The price wasn't disclosed. VoiceNation kept its own name for five more years.
  • February 2025, renamed: Moneypenny announced "VoiceNation is now Moneypenny." In March 2025 it folded VoiceNation and three other US answering brands (Alphapage, Sunshine Communication Services and Choice Voice) into the Moneypenny name.
  • By May 2025, gone: voicenation.com stopped loading its own site and started forwarding to Moneypenny's US homepage.

This is the last version of voicenation.com before it started forwarding, from April 2025, already carrying the "VoiceNation is now Moneypenny" banner:

What's left of VoiceNation today:

  • The website: voicenation.com forwards to Moneypenny's US homepage, and the old VoiceNation pricing page forwards to Moneypenny's pricing.
  • Reviews: VoiceNation's Trustpilot page now forwards to Moneypenny's US page.
  • The BBB: the Better Business Bureau still lists VoiceNation under its own name, in Buford, Georgia.

If you were a VoiceNation customer, your account is now a Moneypenny account, on Moneypenny's pricing and terms.

What VoiceNation used to cost

VoiceNation never published a full price list; its plan table sat behind a sign-up form. The last archived homepage before the rename, from February 2025, advertised Essential plans "from $70/mo" and Personalized plans with scheduling and CRM integration "from $176/mo." By March 2025, when the rename went live, those became $99 and $189.

Today the cheapest live plan is $165 a month. That isn't a like-for-like comparison, since the old "from" prices didn't say how many minutes they included, but the entry price is clearly higher than it was under the VoiceNation name.

VoiceNation pricing today (as Moneypenny)

Moneypenny sells two products in the US: live receptionists, priced by the minute, and a separate AI answering product, priced by the call. Here are the live answering plans, from Moneypenny's own pricing page:

Divide the price by the minutes and the smallest plan works out to $3.30 a minute, while the 500-minute plan comes to about $1.97. Extra minutes cost $2.28 on the smallest plan down to $1.67 on the largest.

Moneypenny's AI answering is priced per call instead: $69 a month for 25 calls, $99 for 50, $199 for 100 and $435 for 250, with extra calls from $2.49 down to $1.89.

For comparison, Zinng's AI answering starts at $49 a month with 300 minutes included, so 25 calls a month would use only a fraction of it.

The billing fine print

  • Billing increment: Moneypenny bills in 30-second increments, so a 40-second call counts as a full minute. Its older US terms also describe up to 180 seconds of wrap-up time per call, so ask whether that still applies to your account.
  • Spam: it can block spam and sales callers, and calls under 5 seconds aren't billed.
  • Canceling: you need to give 30 days' notice, so expect to pay for one more month.
  • Downgrading: you have to stay on a plan for 3 months before you can move to a smaller one.
  • Late payment: there's a $25 reactivation fee if your account is suspended for non-payment.

VoiceNation reviews: what customers say

The ratings point in two directions. Trustpilot rates Moneypenny's US business 4.5 out of 5 from 475 reviews, and Trustpilot notes the company hasn't recently been asking customers for reviews. The Better Business Bureau, meanwhile, gives VoiceNation a D- because it failed to respond to 4 complaints.

The good: setup and onboarding

The positive reviews tend to praise the onboarding team by name, like this 5-star review from September 2026:

The bad: billing after you cancel

The recent 1-star reviews share a theme: being charged for another month after deciding to leave. That's the 30-day notice period at work. One customer says they were billed again after deciding not to go ahead during onboarding:

Another says receptionists gave prospective clients wrong information, and that the extra month was charged on top. Moneypenny replied publicly, offering to review the calls with the customer.

What business owners say on Reddit

Reddit discussions are older but tell a similar story. In r/msp, where IT service companies compare vendors, a VoiceNation customer asked for alternatives in 2023 because "the quality recently is awful":

A Reddit post in r/msp from January 2023 by a VoiceNation customer saying the quality recently is awful, with virtual receptionists who have a hard time reading notes
Username blurred. Source: r/msp, January 15, 2023.

Later that year, another IT company described using Moneypenny for overflow calls, a fair summary of what a message-taking service does well and where it falls short:

A Reddit comment from October 2023: we use Moneypenny for overflow calls; our clients kind of low key hate it because they know they aren't getting transferred to a tech, but for $400 a month it's worth it
Username blurred. Source: r/msp, October 10, 2023.

That last complaint is the one AI fixes best. An AI receptionist like Zinng can answer the caller's question itself, and when it can't, transfer the call live to the right person instead of taking a message.

VoiceNation vs Davinci vs Abby Connect

These are the two services people most often compare VoiceNation with. Here's how they line up, using each company's published plans:

Davinci's live receptionist plans: Business 50 for $129 a month, Business 100 for $239, Premium 50 for $249 and Premium 100 for $319
Davinci's live receptionist plans. Premium adds appointment scheduling and order processing. Source: davincivirtual.com, captured October 12, 2026.
  • VoiceNation vs Davinci: Davinci is cheaper to start, at $129 a month for 50 minutes, and bills by the second. But it charges a $95 setup fee, and it's mainly a virtual office company, so most of its 3,000-plus Trustpilot reviews are about office space and mail, not phone answering.
  • VoiceNation vs Abby Connect: both start at $165 for 50 minutes, but Abby Connect gets much pricier as you grow ($599 for 200 minutes against Moneypenny's $422) and bills in 30-second steps that include ring time. In return, Abby Connect offers a 14-day free trial, an A+ at the BBB and HIPAA compliance, which Moneypenny doesn't.

Or skip the per-minute math entirely. An AI answering service like Zinng picks up every call on the first ring, 24/7, from $49 a month, and transfers callers to you when they need a person. You can hear a free demo built from your own website in about a minute.

Is VoiceNation right for a medical practice?

No. Moneypenny's terms prohibit sending it protected health information, so it can't take patient messages for a medical, dental or mental health practice, whatever the price.

Of the services we checked, Specialty Answering Service, Abby Connect, Ruby and MAP Communications list HIPAA compliance. Whichever you choose, get a signed Business Associate Agreement before the first patient call.

What to ask before you sign with Moneypenny (or anyone)

Get these answers in writing:

  • Do you add wrap-up time to each call on top of the 30-second increments?
  • How are robocalls, spam and hang-ups billed?
  • If I cancel, what is my final billing date?
  • What happens when I go over my minutes, and is there a cap?

Our cheapest answering service comparison prices 22 services side by side at the same call volume, and our answering services directory has picks for every state.

Frequently asked questions

What happened to VoiceNation?

Moneypenny, a UK-owned answering service, bought VoiceNation in March 2020 and renamed it Moneypenny in 2025, so VoiceNation no longer sells under its own name. voicenation.com now redirects to Moneypenny's US website, and its old Trustpilot page redirects to Moneypenny's US page.

How much does VoiceNation cost?

VoiceNation's service is now sold as Moneypenny. Its US plans for human answering are $165 a month for 50 minutes, $265 for 100, $422 for 200 and $985 for 500, with extra minutes from $2.28 down to $1.67. Moneypenny's AI answering costs $69 a month for 25 calls up to $435 for 250 calls.

Is VoiceNation a good answering service?

Reviews are split. Moneypenny's US business has 4.5 out of 5 from 475 reviews on Trustpilot, but the Better Business Bureau rates VoiceNation D- for failing to respond to complaints, and recent 1-star reviews describe being billed for an extra month after canceling.

Is VoiceNation HIPAA compliant?

No. Moneypenny's terms prohibit sending it protected health information, so it is not a fit for medical, dental or mental health practices. Choose a service that will sign a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement, such as Specialty Answering Service, Abby Connect, Ruby or MAP Communications.

VoiceNation vs Davinci: which is better?

Davinci is cheaper to start, at $129 a month for 50 minutes billed by the second, but it charges a $95 setup fee and is mainly a virtual office company. Moneypenny starts at $165 for 50 minutes with no setup fee, offers bilingual answering and has far more reviews about its answering service itself.

How do I cancel VoiceNation or Moneypenny?

Moneypenny requires 30 days' notice to cancel, so you will usually pay for one more month after you ask. You also need to stay on a plan for 3 months before you can downgrade. Give notice in writing and keep a copy.

How we rate answering services

Every service gets our rating from 0 to 5, calculated from the published facts on this page rather than our opinion. Customer reviews count for 35%, price for 25%, billing fairness for 20%, and trial and terms for 20%.

  • Customer reviews: Trustpilot and Google ratings, weighted by how many reviews each has, minus a penalty for a poor BBB grade.
  • Price: what a typical small business would pay each month for 150 calls averaging 80 seconds, using each service's real plans and rounding rules.
  • Billing fairness: whether you pay by the second or get rounded up to a full minute, whether spam calls are charged, and any extra fees.
  • Trial and terms: free trials, refund guarantees, contract minimums, setup fees, and whether prices are public at all.

We don't rate Zinng on this page, and no company paid to be included or ranked.
