Leaving a Google review takes about a minute. You need a Google account (the one you use for Gmail or YouTube works), and then it's a few taps.
Here's exactly how to leave a Google review on your phone or computer, what to write, and how to edit or delete it later. If you run a business, there's a section at the end on making this easy for your customers.
Quick answer
Search for the business on Google or in Google Maps, tap Reviews, then Write a review. Pick a star rating, add a few sentences, and tap Post.
How to leave a Google review on your phone
- Open Google Maps (or the Google app) and sign in.
- Search for the business and tap its name to open its profile.
- Tap the Reviews tab, then tap the stars or "Write a review."
- Choose 1 to 5 stars and write what happened. You can add photos too.
- Tap Post. That's it.
How to leave a Google review on a computer
- Search the business name on Google or open maps.google.com and search there.
- Find its profile on the right side of the results (or the left panel in Maps).
- Click "Write a review." Sign in if Google asks.
- Pick your stars, write your review, and click Post.
If the business sent you a review link or QR code
Many businesses share a direct review link or a QR code on a receipt or counter sign. Tap the link or point your phone's camera at the code, and Google opens straight to the star rating.
You'll still need to be signed in to a Google account. If you're not, Google asks you to sign in before your review is posted.
What to write in a Google review
The most helpful reviews are specific. A sentence or two about what you bought, who helped you, and how it went is plenty.
"Called at 7pm with a leaking water heater. They had someone out the next morning, explained the options, and the price matched the quote."
"Great!!!" Nice to get, but it doesn't tell the next customer much.
Keep it honest and about your own experience. Google removes reviews that break its policies, such as fake reviews, off-topic rants, or reviews posted in exchange for a discount.
How to edit or delete a Google review
On your phone: open Google Maps, tap Contribute, then View your profile. Scroll to your reviews, tap More next to the review, and choose Edit review or Delete review.
On a computer: open Google Maps, click the Menu, then Your contributions > Reviews. Click More next to the review and choose Edit or Delete.
Google review not showing up?
- Give it a little time. New reviews can take a while to appear.
- Check you're signed in to the account you posted from, and look under Your contributions.
- It may have been filtered. Google's systems remove reviews that look like spam or break its content policy.
For business owners: make leaving a review effortless
Most happy customers never leave a review because finding the button takes too many steps. Send them a link or a QR code that opens straight to the star rating instead.
- Get your direct link: our guide on how to create a Google review link shows how.
- Print it: our free Google review QR code generator makes print-ready table tents, cards, and stickers, no signup.
- Ask the right way: see our review request templates.
- Feel free to share this page with customers who aren't sure how to leave a review.
One rule to know: Google's policies don't allow offering rewards for reviews or only asking happy customers. Ask everyone, make it easy, and let the stars fall where they may.
