Fixing a Rejected SMS Campaign (Call to Action)
Rejected for an unverified "Call to Action"? It's an easy fix. Here's exactly what to do.
The Short Version
Put your phone number on your website with a link to a short "SMS Terms" page. That link is how customers opt in, and it's what gets your campaign approved. That's basically all it is.
"Call to Action" rejected just means the carriers couldn't see, on your website, how people agree to get your texts. Adding the link above fixes that.
Here's Exactly What We Did
On our own site, we show our number with a small "Call or text us · SMS Terms" link under it:
That SMS Terms link is our Call to Action, it's literally how we got approved. See it live: zinng.ai/sms-terms.
Do the same on your site: show your business number, and link it to a short SMS Terms page. Use ours as the template.
What Your SMS Terms Page Needs
Keep it short. It just needs to say:
- ✓Your business name and phone number
- ✓How people opt in (they text you first, or ask you to text them on a call)
- ✓What you'll text them (replies, links, appointment details)
- ✓"Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply."
- ✓"Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help."
- ✓That you never share numbers with third parties
- ✓Links to your Terms and Privacy Policy
The "never share with third parties" line is the one people forget, and it's the #1 cause of rejection. Make sure it's on both your SMS Terms page and your Privacy Policy.
Copy This
1. SMS Terms page (paste it on your site, swap in your details):
[Your Business Name] SMS Terms We only text people who have contacted us first. We do not send promotional, automated, or bulk texts. How you opt in: You text our business number, [your number], or you ask us to text you during a call. Either one is your consent to receive texts from us. What we send: Replies to your request, such as links, appointment details, and answers to your questions. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. To stop, reply STOP at any time. For help, reply HELP or email [your email]. We never sell or share your phone number, or your consent to receive texts, with third parties for their marketing. See our Terms of Service [link] and Privacy Policy [link].
2. Add this line to your Privacy Policy:
SMS / Text Messaging: The mobile phone numbers and opt-in information we collect for text messaging are never shared or sold to third parties or lead generators. We use them only to send the messages you requested. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.
Then link to your new SMS Terms page from near your phone number (like our example above) and from your footer.
Then Tell Us
Once your website has the SMS Terms link and the Privacy Policy line, message us and we'll resubmit your campaign and watch it for you. Chat widget (bottom right of any Zinng page) or [email protected]. Approval usually takes a few business days.
FAQ
I only text people who text or call me first. Isn't that enough?
It's valid, but the carriers still need to see it. The public SMS Terms page is what they check. That's the whole point of adding it.
I don't have a Terms or Privacy Policy page.
You'll need both. They can be simple, they just have to exist, be linked on your site, and include the SMS lines above. We can help.
Can you just write it for me?
Pretty much, the copy blocks above are ready to paste. Send us your website and we'll tell you exactly what to add.
Still have questions?
Use the chat widget in the bottom right of any Zinng page, call (213) 263-4777, or email [email protected] and we'll help you get approved.
