What is A2P 10DLC and do you need it?
A2P 10DLC is the carrier registration for businesses that text customers. See what it allows, who needs it and what happens if you skip it.
A2P 10DLC is a registration that US mobile carriers require before a business sends text messages from a regular 10-digit local number. “A2P” means application to person, which is any business texting a customer. If you want to text customers who have not texted you first, you need it.
What happens if you do not register?
Section titled “What happens if you do not register?”Without registration your number is Unregistered. You can still reply to contacts who have reached out to you first. You cannot send outgoing texts to any other number.

Do you need it?
Section titled “Do you need it?”You need A2P 10DLC if both of these are true:
- Your team number is a local 10-digit number, not a toll-free number.
- You want to start text conversations, not only reply to customers who contact you.
If your team number is toll-free, you register through toll-free number verification instead.
Which plans include it?
Section titled “Which plans include it?”A2P 10DLC registration is included on the Pro plan and above. On a lower plan, the SMS Registration card shows Upgrade to Pro.
What does registration involve?
